"Big O on DVD"
|
Just saw today that the first Big O dvd is set for release on June 19th. Upon searching over the distributor's website, it would seem they announced this at the end of March, but it's finally going on pre-order, at least at dvdempire.com. The company statement says it'll be 100 minutes, DVDEmpire says it's 90, and no one's saying how many episodes are on it, though that sounds like 3 or 4 to me. Anyone know if it's the slightly altered CN version? (good/god and all that) Anyway, just thought I'd share and do my good public deed for the day, seeing as this place has been quiet as hell the last couple of days. ------------------------------ Chad Collier--Cast in the name of schwing. "Amazon never has any information on dvd's this early before release. I shouldn't waste the time looking there before I post, they won't know anyway and I won't look like a dork, really." ::sigh:: At least it's 4 eps a disc. I'm guessing there will be 5 on the last one? ------------------------------ "You're a louse, Roger Smith." ------------------------------ Chad Collier Digital Bitch J. Random VFX Company |

>Unless, being Bandai, they decide to do something really bizarre, like >4/4/4/1. Or the more mundane 4/3/3/3. They'll milk out that extra ~$20 one way or another. (especially considering they could fit the entire series on a single dvd-18 disc, or possibly even the next size down) ------------------------------ "You're a louse, Roger Smith." ------------------------------ Chad Collier Digital Bitch J. >Yep - I've had mine pre-ordered from amazon.com for a week or so now. >It's coming out the day before my birthday, if they hit their ship >date. :) Ouch - Amazon tends to have shit for pricing. $17.42 preorder at Bestprices.com - that's my main source since Express.com went all screwy. Better prices anyway, and one of their reps participates in the AoD forums regularly too. $18.74 at Amazon... Bestprices *really* kicks as on ADV distributed discs - ADV has a larger wholesale discount, and they pass that on - 44% off some of those discs, usually at least 41%. (And they claim they still make money on each disc.) -MegaZone, megazone@megazone.org Personal Homepage http://www.megazone.org/ Eyrie Productions FanFic http://www.eyrie-productions.com/ |

For a difference of a dollar >thirty-two. It adds up - I've probably saved $100 or more in just the past couple of months, since I buy a metric ton of DVDs a month. Especially with their steep discoutns on ADV stuff. That's where all my DVDs have been coming from for the past few months. They also tend to be better about getting things back in stock faster, in my experience and from what I've seen others saying. They've been around for a while - the branched out into doing DVDs, they've been a computer components seller for a while. A buck here, a couple of bucks there - with their prices it is kinda like getting one DVD out of 10 free, or better. -MegaZone, megazone@megazone.org Personal Homepage http://www.megazone.org/ Eyrie Productions FanFic http://www.eyrie-productions.com/ |

www.planetanime.com - preorder and get 45% off. The only problem I've had with them is that they STILL haven't shipped my Transformers: The Movie DVD. This is after I got all of Trigun and Escaflowned that's out, AND my Megatron and God Magnus. Gotta call them and find out what's with that. But I'm not displeased with them at all. I'm considering asking them to see if they can get me the Giant Robo Mega DVD if I can't find it at A-kon, and I am SO doing the Big O preorder through them. -- Geoff Depew - Mephron "I think I sprained my anterior lobe just thinking about it." |

Ah. It's discounts on selected pre-orders. But still 20% off all domestic DVDs. Since my Japanese is still Awful (up from Feeble), I tend to get the domestic unless it's something I really really really really want. Like the GR Mega. Gotta refill the AmEx tomorrow, methinks. -- Geoff Depew - Mephron "I think I sprained my anterior lobe just thinking about it." |

>But still 20% off all domestic DVDs. 20% is low, even Amazon does better than that on a lot of DVDs, Suncoast's website too... Bestprices.com is usually 31-33% off most discs, and 41-44% off ADV stuff. I know I'm coming across as a commercial for BP - I'm a really satisfied customer. Hell, Shawn from BP is active over at AoD and when I post a thread in their Retail forum about what titles BP is missing for preorders, he'll take my post and go bug his buyers to get them listed. That's just cool. BP seems like a pretty small operation, and their website is still evolving. You can't add to orders or cancel orders from the site, you have to use the customer service form and ask - but I'll say that the couple of times I've used that form I got a reply nigh-immediately. The one thing is BP doesn't stock hentai stuff, well, not most of it, so I've used PlanetAnime or DVDPlanet for that, depending on who has the best price. -MegaZone, megazone@megazone.org Personal Homepage http://www.megazone.org/ Eyrie Productions FanFic http://www.eyrie-productions.com/ |

LAST EDITED ON Apr-27-01 AT 08:17 PM (EDT) >You know you're a geek when... > >you think "No, wait, Poor(4) is after Feeble(2)". Actually, I was thinking in EverCrack terms, where it's Awful (0-10), then Feeble (11-20), and so on.... Which may be somewhat more geekly. Or just sad. (That being said, I saw someone running around playing a paladin with a long-spear, named 'Deejay Croft' in EQ earlier this week. Didn't get a screenshot, though.) -- Geoff Depew - Mephron "Big O!
