>The Chief (UF-G) and Deadpool... > >Oh man. this sounds like something one wishes might just exist.Well, I'm not doing the Deadpool episode - not right now, at least - but I am working on an LBatB episode. The concept, as if it wasn't obvious, is basically a meta-FI riff on Batman: The Brave and the Bold, in which an animated version of the Chief teams up with a different Lensman (or two) every week to punch evil in the middle of its face. It's meant to be square-jawed, two-fisted, all-ages action without many big-picture considerations, and runs in the same afternoon programming block as Thunder Force Forever and Tuncer & the Repo Men. Depending on who you ask, it's either brilliant fun for the whole family, hideously dumbed-down Zetan propaganda, or both. :) --G. -><- Benjamin D. > "...it's either brilliant fun for the whole family, hideously dumbed-down Zetan propaganda, or both." Okay, so it's hideously brilliant, dumbed-down fun Zetan propaganda for the whole family. Or something like that. Whatever it is, I want on DVD if they still release such antiquated formats. I don't think I could afford a datacrystal reader. Peter Eng -- Insert humorous comment here. |

Upon further reflection, I actually think the resultant mental image is funnier if you re-envision this show as My Little SPARTAN: Friendship Is Tactical. Particularly when the weirdly Strossian elements of the My Little Pony FIM plot (as related to me by Ardie) are kept in mind. --G. "Honored Tutor, Case NIGHTMARE GREEN is upon us." -><- Benjamin D. Obviously, My Little SPARTAN would've been put out by the RSN to help with morale and PR during and after the Covenant war back in the Golden Age. No word on who's leading up this revival -- somebody probably decided to ride on the coattails of My Little Destroid's return to the airwaves. ---Philip (either that, or it's a carefully calculated effort between them. TV executives, go figure.)

LAST EDITED ON Sep-22-11 AT 06:33 PM (EDT) >>My Little Destroid: Friendship Is >>Tactical, a heartwarming military adventure set in a world of >>mysteriously autonomous miniature war machines. >I'm trying, and failing, to imagine some of the main characters' >reactions to discovering the existence of this show. Oh, it's been around for a lot longer than you might originally think... My Little Destroid: Friendship Is Tactical is the 2405-onward revival of the mid-golden age series My Little Destroid, which had various and sundry spinoffs and successors during that period of varying quality. Corporate sponsorship of the series alternated between the WDF Information Division and the Solaris Commerce Bureau. During the Exile, Solaris latched onto the rights and kept it locally produced, but didn't distribute it off-planet. A more detailed mythology came into the series at that time, but it rapidly became pretty esoteric for anybody who wasn't a devoted follower (something about Inner Spheres and Successor States and Clans and stuff. Very confusing). By the end of the Exile, it had nearly faded into obscurity, save for its line of rebranded cutified toy 'mechs. The 2405 reboot/revival has reprocessed most of the mythology and its golden age roots, making it into a conceptual-episodic thematic series with a hinted-at deeper background. Most of the old standby mechs from the original series and toylines are included, though some of the names and personalities have been remixed. "The Queen Of Hearts", the Shadow Cat Queen Martina Steiner, is the legendary founder of Mechania who fought off the Kattilac Empire (an evil race of robotic cat-shaped destroids) but apparently perished in the effort -- though it is rumored that she'll return in her country's darkest hour. The Queen of Hearts is succeeded by her two Princess daughters, who have just recently reconciled after a long LONG stalemate between their forces that divided up the planetary kingdom, through the assistance of the newly formed "Friendship Lance". All destroid classes, veritech mecha, and battlemovers are represented in the series, albeit a lot more cutely. They live in what looks to be a nice village -- if said nice village was designed by Cybertronians but painted in primary and pastel colors. Ayame Sterling is a fan of the series; it was just getting started as she reached the series's original target age of 8-12. It didn't hurt matters that her Aunt Emilia voices one of the main characters -- "Dangerous" Danielle Defender, a Rifleman mech who serves as the Friendship Lance's air sentry. Kaname is... nonplussed by all of this. --- Philip "It is said that once a young Destroid discovers what its special purpose is in life, it gains its callsign and unit patch..."
