"Self-Promotion: My Harry Potter Fanfic"

While it's not a large part of the UF continuity, Harry Potter has made his way into the corpus, so I figure there must be at least a few HP fans here. Not that it implies that they read HP fanfic, but whatever :) I've been posting my first multi-chapter HP fanfic over on FFN, entitled "Long Live the Queen", with chapters posting every Friday. I suppose it's sort of a serial experiment, except that I have a pre-defined end-point and didn't start posting until I already had a sizable buffer, which I've so far managed to keep up *crosses fingers*. The summary brief is this: "With Harry Potter's hearing for Underage Use of Magic looming, and Sirius Black hunted for a crime he didn't commit and was never tried for, Harry reaches out to Her Majesty the Queen for help with unexpected results." Anyway, if anyone is interested, chapter 1 is here. I don't have any sort of discussion forum for it at the moment, but feel free to PM me (here or there, whichever) or leave a review if you want to comment on it. The plot's predicated on things that don't exist, Sirius never called Harry "pup", the Magna Carta has about as much relevance to mid-90s British law as it does to the development of Tanzanian Maasai-language hip hop, and there are unintentionally hilarious typos, of which "Remus's arrival as dinner" is my particular favourite. Oh, and the Molly-bashing gets old really fast. Other than that it's fine. =] ---

Okay, let me break this down in more detail. #1: Your plot, as it stands, hinges on the idea of magical Britain being bound by a Wizard's Charter. There is no Wizard's Charter ever mentioned in any of the Harry Potter novels; the closest I can find is the Wizengamot Charter of Rights mentioned in OotP. Your plot also says that this Wizard's Charter obliges the magical community to uphold the British Constitution. The UK doesn't have a written Constitution to uphold. #2: Again, Sirius never called Harry "pup" in the books, at least as far as I can tell. If memory serves, he occasionally addresses Harry as Prongslet, but I can't remember off the top of my head. #3: The Magna Carta is an 800-year-old document that had been entirely superseded even by the dates you set for your Wizard's Charter. If you're having Harry entreat the Queen for assistance, you've got to do it with reference to modern law, rather than something so ancient it's basically written in a different language. I trust this expresses my issues more clearly and with some measure of wit. =] ---

Nearly-Headless Nick was, almost, beheaded for witchcraft in the 1400-1500s, the International Secrecy statute was enacted even before the witch trials.
Beyond all this, which part of 'fanfiction' is it you have a problem with comprehending?
