"2021.03.09: insanity, definition of"
|
LAST EDITED ON Oct-08-21 AT 05:21 PM (EDT) Randomly ran across this in the scrollback and chided myself for not putting it here when it happened;docmui You know the classic definition of insanity--something about doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results? Well, they obviously never had to soft-reset when getting legendary critters in Pokemon.gryphon yeah, I don't think Einstein was a pokemon trainer, although that is a heck of a mental image docmui Yeah...he'd go for the brainy psychic Pokemon. Or, heck, he might discuss with Mewtwo the meaning of the universe, etc. "So, you can read anyone's mind?" "Yes." "So, what do you think?" *pause* "Interesting theory. It took me a few moments to understand." gryphon (as opposed to Erwin Schrödinger, who would just obsess about whether the pokemon are alive inside their balls when you can't see them.) docmui *snrk* Okay, that was a good one. --G. -><- Benjamin D. Schrödinger, being ridiculously horny even by the standards of physics nerds to the point of having his greatest physics ideas whilst on a threeway twist in an Austrian ski chalet, would be That Kind of Pokémon fan. The kind that draws/commissions That Kind of fanart for mons like Lopunny, Braixen, etc. As an actual Trainer... well. Canonically, scientists, especially STEM-brand scientists, seem drawn to Electric- and Steel-types. I think theoretical and quantum physicists would probably combine that with some of the smarter Psychic-types. So, if you'll permit, I have drawn up a team for Erwin. 1) Alakazam This actually draws on Schrödinger's background as a mathematician. Mathematics is a field that is highly collaborative, far more so than others; thus, to me it makes sense that they have a lot of Pokémon that evolve via trading. Alakazam is a Psychic-type with a massively high IQ that evolves via trading, so it seems like a very natural fit. 2) Magneton Magneton, and not Magnezone, is a real classic scientist Pokémon in my opinion. The arrangement of a Magneton is highly reminiscent to an atomic nucleus, rather than the UFO (or perhaps the plum pudding nuclear model) of Magnezone. Additionally, electromagnetism fascinated Schrödinger in his later career working on unified field theories. 3) Gardevoir Like I said, Schrödinger was a perpetually horny dude. Indeed, he was also poly, living with his wife and mistress openly. In the 30s. In Ireland. Erwin gave an imaginary number of fucks. Gardevoir is another, uh, fanart-baiting Pokémon, but I think he has a Gardevoir because he finds the floating, ethereal form beautiful rather than. Ahem. Something Else Tee Em. 4) Vivillon Schrödinger was extremely interested in colour theory and how it applied to broader ideas about philosophy in general. As such, I feel like it would only make sense for him to have a Pokémon with multiple possible colourations which are highly distinct. Another possibility was Kecleon, but in my opinion Vivillon has a stronger connection to colour theory. 5) Bronzong In addition to being a Steel-type, which is (like I said) a very common type for scientists in the Pokémon world, Bronzong is also a Psychic-type whose design is based off a traditional Japanese temple bell. Schrödinger was particularly fascinated by the Upanishads, but his interests extended to a variety of Eastern religions, and I can definitely see him having one. 6) Meowstic-Female Look, Schrödinger has to have at least one cat Pokémon, and I think it's this one. Female Meowstic is a Psychic-type, with which Erwin already has considerable affinity, and it has a look that is very reminiscent of fashionable French women in the period around WW2, which would appeal to his aesthetic sensibilities. So there you have it. Schrödinger's team! I'm curious to know what you all think of this hour and a half of research, overanalysis, and pontification. =] --- "She's old, she's lame, she's barren too, // "She's not worth feed or hay, // "But I'll give her this," - he blew smoke at me - // "She was something in her day." -- Garnet Rogers, Small Victory FiMFiction.net: we might accept blatant porn involving the cast of My Little Pony but as God is my witness we have standards. in this universe feynman styled his famous diagrams after his girafarig i will not be taking questions at this time thank you for coming to my teddiursa talk. =] |

Yeah, I didn't say at the time, but it did strike me as a little... mean, I guess. I wanted to make people laugh by responding to a brief but, like, not like that. I am a nerd though, so taking things a little personally when no offence was meant is almost as par for the course as analysis of which Pokémon a theoretical physicist would have on their team. |
