"Holy Potatoes!"

Some people might remember Holy Potatoes! A Weapon Shop?! which was essentially a management game filled with sly little pop-references (or in most cases not sly at all.)

Well there is a new one: Holy Potatoes! We're in Space?!

Gameplay wise, this is best described as an altered version of the game FTL. You're managing a single ship through procedurally generated 'galaxies' with only a limited amount of time to gather as many resources as possible before heading off to the next galaxy before the local evil empire, The Eclipse, catch up to you.

It varies in that combat is turned based, and that your weapons aren't repairable. If your laser cannon is destroyed, you'll have to replace it. And while the game has a cutesy face, combat can actually be pretty tricky, especially since you can only shield one weapon at a time and have only so much energy to spend each round.

It is also positively marinated in pop-culture references. One of the first characters you see in the game is called "Young Hal" and looks so much like a potato version of Char Aznable its hilarious (or painful YMMV.) Pretty much every NPC is a reference to something. My starter crew has combat specialist in it named "Spuffy".

I blew quite a large number of hours on this yesterday, and I find it very enjoyable.
