Want to see something like it get published?

As some of you know, I am a big fan of the Myst genre. Big may in fact be an understatement. But there haven't been any new Myst games in a while, and there probably won't be any more unless Cyan does something weird. (And Cyan is busy writing Obduction right now, so they won't do something weird for at least a year or more.)

However, a bunch of Myst fans got together and are building a game in the spirit of Myst. It's up on Kickstarter now, and it's called Quern. If you liked Myst, you might consider backing it.

(And yes, I know Gryph didn't like Myst for reasons that have nothing to do with the game. ;)

Eh? My memory is hazy this many years later, I admit, but I think I recall being mostly neutral about Myst, apart from thinking that - like basically all CD-based games in the early-CD-based-games era - it was trying a little too hard to find excuses for going to the CD. :)

You might be thinking of The 7th Guest, which I've never actually played, but which filled my working life with misery and stress while I was at Leading Edge, on account of many Leading Edge computers couldn't actually run it for some arcane hardware reason.

Myst was too big to fit on a floppy. ;)

As I recall, you told me that most LE boxen couldn't run Myst either, and that you got a lot of support calls for it. But I may be mis-remembering.

Well, it's possible. I mean, the original WinPro 486 wasn't a 486 and couldn't run Windows as shipped, so what wasn't going to be a problem with that product line?
