"English Electric Lightning T.5"
|
You may recall that Corwin has one of these, and that he enjoys it very much. And you may have wondered, "Well, what is one of those like?" They aren't very common any more - the only place they're still flying is one field in South Africa - but it has recently come to my attention that you can see one in action in one episode of last year's quite lovely BBC science show, Wonders of the Solar System with Professor Brian Cox. You should watch this show anyway, because it's awesome, but you should particularly seek it out if you would like to see a Lightning T.5 in action. They even do the 90° zoom climb Corwin busts out to show off with - it's kind of the Lightning's party piece. --G. -><- Benjamin D. I should like to point out that the sequel to the series has come out and is currently airing on BBC2. So hunt down the old one and then watch the new, because it's just as awesome. Prof. Cox is as close as we get right now to a successor to Carl Sagan, I think. He has that same ability to relate science concepts as though he's just learned them himself, they blew his mind completely, and he's desperate to share the experience with us before the glow fades. :) --G. -><- Benjamin D.
