"Surprising People"
|
Well, it was a surprise to me anyway... Tonight I learned something new about actress/director Roxann Dawson (aka Roxann Biggs and Roxann Biggs-Dawson), who played B'Elanna Torres in Star Trek: Voyager. I never knew she'd acted on Broadway. That's not too surprising I guess though, because she was a theater major in college. What was so surprising to me, though, was that her very first professional acting job was on Broadway, and in the role of Diana Morales in A Chorus Line. We're talking big time here - the actress who originated the part won a Tony award. ACL calls for major dancing chops, and the Morales role calls for great singing ability too - she's is the one who belts out the show's signature song, "What I Did For Love". For this to have been her first job is pretty amazing! Having seen that show (not the movie version) several times I guess I'm having trouble shaking the mental image of B'Elanna in dance gear on the stage, belting out classic Broadway showtunes...
