"Downtime II: Swede Petersson"
|
Senior Lieutenant Olaf "Swede" Petersson, WDF (ret.) enjoys an Energon Cube, one of the popular human-type drinks offered by the legendary Cybertron pub The Neutral Zone. The precise recipe is a closely-guarded secret, but the drink is believed to contain raspberry liqueur, bourbon whiskey, and Red Bull. Illustration by Andrew Lee Griffith, commissioned by Doc, and adjusted slightly by Philip (the original version is wearing a red cap)! --G. -><- Benjamin D. It's (very) vaguely inspired by a cocktail from Len Deighton's 1962 novel The IPCRESS File, the Manhattan Project (which is a Manhattan, rye+vermouth+bitters, with cherry brandy added). Disclaimer: I do not drink alcohol and know basically f-all about cocktails. I just wanted something that would be about the right color and have an energy drink in it. :) --G. -><- Benjamin D. I like interesting cocktails, but first and foremost I have to give a thumbs up to the art. There's lots of characters for whom we don't see art, and I'm glad to finally put a (human) face to the name! That said, I have to ask the question that's been at the edge of my consciousness for like a decade. Did Swede and Komilia ever get together? Assuming they both managed to find two spare minutes between them, that is. ------ Authors of our fates Orchestrate our fall from grace Poorest players on the stage Our defiance drives us straight to the edge

>Fair enough! Also, as Philip pointed out to me in the studio, Prime is married. More or less. Insofar as they do that kind of thing on Cybertron. :) At this point it may actually develop into a running joke that Komi keeps picking the wrong guys, in a logistical-impossibility sense rather than a "good gods, your boyfriends are all the worst dudes" sense. --G. After making a couple of these, I can say it tastes pretty good, but I would go with a different main alcohol than whiskey; bourbon is a pretty overpowering flavor, and the golden-brown color does mess with the overall color of the drink (full disclosure, mine didn't come out purple, only because my liquor store didn't have a properly purple raspberry liqueur). I used gin for my second round, which worked a lot better for me, the crispness of the gin offsetting the sweetness of the raspberry. The final recipe I arrived at was equal parts gin, raspberry liqueur, redbull*, and club soda. *my store didn't have OG redbull so I used something different, but I doubt it makes a huge difference, considering the nature of energy drinks. The drink punches pretty good, but since I don't work for Nijisanji, I held to a reasonable ratio of alcohol to energy drink, and so I didn't get in trouble on that front. "This is probably a stupid question, but . . ." |
