>models, but yeah. I know a few people here use machines like this and
>I don't want them to miss important safety information. Well, that was a bit of a jumpscare. For a second there, I thought it was happening again. Still, if the recall process is still ongoing, it's worth a signal boost.
A couple of supplemental items about this:
1. Philips has never quite come out and said so in as many words, probably because they can't without having legal action taken against them by someone, but there are some very broad hints in the original recall announcement and related documentation that this problem is related to the use of those pseudoscientific "O³ cleaner" devices, which saturate CPAP/BiPAP devices with ozone to "disinfect" them. Last I knew, there was zero peer-reviewed evidence that this actually works, plus it leaves the machine and tubing full of a gas you shouldn't be breathing; now, on top of that, some folks strongly suspect that another thing they do is cause polyurethane foam to disintegrate.
2. The recall process has, indeed, taken the short side of forever. I think it took them just about a year to ship me a DreamStation 2 to replace my recalled OG DreamStation. (And yes, "DreamStation" is absolutely also the name of a Sega game console in a parallel universe where the failed Sony/Nintendo collab that ended up being Sony's breakthrough console was called the Playcast.) I'm still a little annoyed at the necessity, because the DS2's ergonomics are markedly inferior to the OG's - which, tragically, were the best I've encountered in nearly 30 years of using CPAP devices, and by quite a wide margin too.
This reminds me, I got a thing in the mail the other day about the class-action settlement mentioned there. I never did get around to sending back my OGDS; guess I should get off my ass and do that. The settlement amount isn't much, but a hundred bucks is a hundred bucks.
