   Retired astronaut Jim Lovell died yesterday at the age of 97. You will almost certainly know him as the commander of Apollo 13; he was also a member of the crew of Apollo 8, the first manned flight around the Moon and possibly the only good thing that happened in 1968. He also appeared in the 2008 UF mini-story Operation Unfinished Business.
