"Spoiler-free Review of Project Hail Mary"
| |
Saw "Project Hail Mary" with Eldest Spawn this weekend. It's right up my alley: hard SF, smart protagonists, high stakes. It's a good movie; jury's still out on how much I enjoyed it. I loved the book. I'm a huge fan of the Andy Weir, the author. I disagree with some of the story changes for the big screen. But it IS a good movie. Spoiler-ish: . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . The end credits for Project Hail Mary are really short compared to a modern CGI blockbuster. The visuals during the end credits are NOT animation, CGI, or AI. They are actual astrophotography, with the stars removed to better show said end credits. They are worth staying for. An interview with the photographer. Went for the interview; stayed for the scenery: https://www.astronomy.com/observing/the-astrophotography-of-project-hail-mary/ II have a blog; come see what I've created: https://thewhiteminotaur.wordp ress.com/ -The 2025 Character Creation Challenge (#charactercreationchallenge): https://thewhiteminotaur.wordp ress.com/tag/charactercreation challenge/ |

Saw it yesterday and I enjoyed it because it likewise hit all those markers that I've come to prefer in the SF genre of late. I held off on listening to the audiobook because I'd decided to see it with family and it was either go in with fresh eyes or gagged to avoid verbally nitpicking the entire time. Would I recommend it to others? Hard yes, if only because like The Martian they were able to make it accessible to the layman while keeping it interesting if you're familiar with the science. And since that's a hallmark of Weir's writing style, I suspect that I'll enjoy the novel even more. -------------------------- CdrMike, Overwatch Reject "You know, the world could always use more heroes." - Tracer, Overwatch |
