"teaser: Manhunt 4"

"Who holds the authority to conduct such a trial with the WDF's
administrative structure defunct?" Saavik asked before Gryphon could.
"GENOM's legal department, ostensibly on behalf of the surviving
people of Musashi, and the Barrister General for the Salusian Crown have
been wrangling about that in the Federation Supreme Judicial Court since
the Senate withdrew 2288-1257 - part of the withdrawal decree assigned
legal responsibility for undisposed WDF matters to the Crown, by request
of Her Majesty the Queen."
Saavik arched an eyebrow. "Via the Salusian senator?"
Vision shook her head. "A personal request delivered on the
floor of the Senate. Actually, 'request' is what it says in the
official documents, but I've reviewed the file holos. It was really
more like an ultimatum. She quite rightly pointed out that the Crown's
cooperative arrangement with the WDF pre-dated even the Pact Galactica,
and, as such, if anyone should be named trustee in such matters, there
could be only one legal course of action." A smile quirked the corner
of her mouth as she added, "My favorite part? Was when the Right
Honorable Senator for Corellia said you were an infamous criminal and
she challenged him to a duel." The AI's grin broadened as she added,
"She called him a pusillanimous blackguard."
Gryphon chuckled. "That's my girl."

Holy shiznit, Gryph: you're really cranking these things out!

Great to see you (and the story-version of you) back in action again (goes back to re-read the first three installments).

Thanks,
-T.Z.

Good to know Gryphon still has friends in the highest of places. If he can just manage to get that evidence, then make it to Salusia in one piece and surrender himself into the custody of Salusian authorities, he'll get, as they say, his day in court.

I'm thinking now that Gil Grissom is going to end up being a big part of that (possibly with Spock's help). After all, you are to consider that G and Saavik took a large number of samples from the massacre site last installment, and who better to analyze problematical samples than those two?

It also appears that Gil is going to be the one to corner the Butcher of Musashi and realize that he has somehow been committing his most recent string of murders and crashing a spaceship on a completely different planet at the same time.

Well, I've noticed a number of the later stories start with a focus, in the first scene, on a character who's going to be pivotal later. It'd actually feel a little disjointed, I think, if the first scene focused on someone whose presence wasn't resolved by the time the story is over, ne? That goes double if the the character isn't identified at first. That kind of tension and buildup just feels weird if the character's not pivotal later.

I'd say that's a Duh, Joe. I actually dont know that there would be that many usable samples, I guess it depends on what it is that your looking for, really. I'd expect there NOT to be any usable dna after so long in such a hostile environment, for example. I will not, however, rule out the possiblity of there being other sorts of samples which would not be affected, or even possibly better preserved, by such a hostile environment.

all and away, though, I'm expecting that things really dont come to a full boil till we have the Butcher and the Gryphon in Senar at the same time. For all thats changed, somehow I have a feeling that the full up crisis climax is still going to be with Gryphon confronting the Butcher, though this time with even better witnesses on G's side than before.
