I've read it three times now, since about this time last year, and I'm in the process of reading it aloud to my wife (who enjoys fanfic as long as she isn't the one who has to read it <grin>). Going through the wringer is so right! And it just leaves me panting for more and wanting to demand the answers to questions that I shouldn't ask here...

   Yeah tell me about it!

I think I've read NXE at least 4 times top to bottom. I got my cousin to read it too. This is my favorite fanfiction series ever.
Been through the entire UF series at least thrice and love it.

Got any more coming? :)

I know, it's a truly great story... Really makes you look at the original in a new light, eh? Speaking of which, anyone know the story behind the dubbing of the movies? Maybe I'm being forward when I say this, but I don't think the guys at Eyrie like compliments? The whole fan-boy 'tude seems to put them off... they don't often respond to these type posts, and never to e-mails... maybe I'm complaining, maybe it's a valid observation...who knows... they do a good job and that's all that matters....

I tend to respond to forum posts when there's a question or something that looks like it needs addressing, but for straight compliments, I thought that our appreciation could be taken as read - there's only so many ways to say "thank you" before it starts sounding like you're being sarcastic. Apologies to any I might have given that impression to. :)

As for email, that's mainly because I'm just really bad at answering mail consistently anyway...

I love compliments - and I think I've replied to every single fan email I've received in the past 10 years, unless some got lost in the occasional server meltdown.

I don't respond to all of them here because it is an open forum and, honestly, there are enough of them that I felt self-concious posting in every thread with a compliment.

Fan-boyishness does turn me off - but just saying 'thanks' isn't being a fanboy. I've run into true Eyrie fanboys at cons - the type who follow you around and want you to recite your life story to them from zygote on - and/or want to tell you their life story from zygote on. That can be annoying. Especially the ones that interrupt you right in the middle of a conversation like the person I'm talking to doesn't exist. People who do *that* don't get a lot of my time, no matter how much they like our work. Well, if it were a really cute fangirl I'd make an exception - but it never works out that way.

You need to rip off the Sluggy Freelance Sluggy Belly thing. I might have to hang out by that booth if I go to the San Diego Comicon again...

Although, I suppose 'eyrie-productions <bellybutton> com' wouldn't fit the same way, would it. Either way, I'd be more than happy to donate a box of Sharpie's from my dad's hardware store for the cause. :)

   *ruffles the sent-mail folders*

I first wrote to Gryph October 1st of last year, asking an unutterably rude question regarding the release date of NXE: TMP. He was *unfailingly* polite and far friendlier than he had any reason to be... and wrote back within eight hours.

Similarly, I wrote to Zoner not long ago with regards to Anime Expo and how he felt the experience would be for a first-time congoer. Again, a prompt response to a question he's probably heard ten thousand times, and a friendly, reassuring one too.

Ditto for Phil Moyer, who was cordial and humorous in explaining why he doesn't take commission work (and if he ever DOES, I'm gonna be right there, trust me). Another ditto for Kris Overstreet, who made me laugh out loud several times during the course of a few conversations via AIM, and shared a tidbit or two about his upcoming plans for the Redneck and friends.

I've also spoken with Truss, and while distracted with work at the time, he too was exactly as open and pleasant as the others. You really can't convince me that Eyrie doesn't appreciate and take time out to get in touch with their fan base. :)

Well, how many fanfic authors run their own public discussion forums?

Not anything on this scale, but I've had one for well over a year through HostedScripts.com...

Now I feel bad, heh. Well, I'm glad people get responses, but I've sent a couple letters over about six months since I found Eyrie, and I seem to be the one who gets lost in the cracks of mail. Or maybe I'm just a stupid-fan-boy complaining, oh well, keep it goin'...

Stephen Gagne has one. I, technically, have one, if you consider the mailing group I tend to write for as a public discussion forum. I think it does. :)

The blasted series sucked me in... after I had promised myself that I was not going to read NXE until I'd seen NGE from beginning to end...

At this point, considering the discussion topics I've heard about NGE, I'll be far less enthusiastic about getting around to seeing it. It'll stay well below Bubblegum Crisis 2040 in terms of priority. But NXE is one awesome series, and really strikes a chord with me. Makes me realize how far I've got to go.

Now I need to find someplace that can make me an NXE shirt. Or a plugsuit. ;>
