"Forgot to mention..."
|
Cosmonaut and Swede both arrived at the level cap a while back. They did it so undramatically, thanks to duty officer XP, that I didn't even really consider it worth mentioning, but what the hell. Slow day at the office. (Also, K'senya MacCready, the Klingon I made in order to have a graphical prototype for what B'Elanna O'Brien looks like as a KDF officer, is going to get there sometime today, I expect. Which is great because it means she can go back to driving a real ship and not any of the woeful tier-4 offerings.) --G. "Suvanna, what's the story on the warp core?" "It's gone, MacCready." Well congrats anyway. If you haven't done them yet, I would recommend running the latest feature episodes, IMHO, the story line is not that bad, but to really get the full experience, I would run the Borg Advance missions (“Report to Gamma Orionis”, “Where Angels Fear to Tread”, “A Gathering Darkness”, “Assimilation”, and “Fluid Dynamics”), skip the Breen stuff, or not, your choice, and then run the Solanae Dyson Sphere arc, but just “Sphere of Influence,” “Circles within Circles” (I think you have to run this one), and then “A Step Between Stars” and “Surface Tension”. All the rest of the missions are filler ones, for showing you around. Surface Tension by itself is good, but for once Cryptic has actually made a good story line thread and stuck to it with the revamped missions. Of course your mileage may very. I won't fight you Atton. I don't care, I just want you to die. (Disciple and Atton KOTOR2) |

Things flow much better that way (and you won't have the moment of serious cognitive dissonance those of us who'd already completed the Solanae missions had when the Borg Advance missions went live...). The Breen missions didn't excite me in general, and their set bonus (like the Jem'hadar set before it) goes away quickly once you get Solanae gear, but there is one piece of gear that is VERY worth getting no matter what your level: The Breen Transphasic Cluster Torpedo. Doesn't work with any torpedo buffing skills sadly and has a long CD (so it's good to have a more conventional launcher too), but when it hits its target it splits into TEN mines at point blank range, each as damaging as a decent photorp. It hits like a Mack truck. Also, seconded on doing the new Borg missions first. It's a bit of a spoiler if you do the Solanae ones first, and I consider you lucky for being able to do them in the right order. =) --------

>Which is >great because it means she can go back to driving a real ship and not >any of the woeful tier-4 offerings.) Or so I thought. As it turns out, though, the list of available tier-5 Klingon ships contains a misleading detail, or, as we used to call such things in simpler times, a filthy lie. There's a tier-5 ship called the "Fleet K't'inga Battle Cruiser Retrofit", which, as its name suggests, is for members of fleets only. Fine, great, whatever. There's another ship in the list called simply the "K't'inga Battle Cruiser Retrofit". What would you think? I think you would think what I thought. But no. Unlike every other higher-tier-than-its-original-version "Retrofit" ship I can think of that doesn't have "Fleet" in its name, it's reserved for fleet members only as well. "Fuck you," says Cryptic, "play the way we think you should play or resign yourself to less-cool toys." Some things never, ever change. --G. -><- Benjamin D.
