"Small note on Fulcrum II"

While I was re-reading Fulcrum to refresh the story of Obi-Wan's padawan in my mind, I caught this little nod to a certain old show.

"HK-47," she said into the handlink stuck to the back of her
left hand, "I need you."

I can't believe I missed it - it was one of my favourite things on TV when I was younger.

Good one, Gryph. :)

Knight Rider, with David Hasselhoff as itinerant do-gooder Michael Knight. He had a car equipped with an AI called KITT, and a communicator built into his watch. Once an episode or so he'd get into trouble and call out "KITT, I need you!" into his watch, and KITT would drive to the rescue (often busting through a wall in the process).

Edit: The funniest thing about this reference is probably the juxtaposition of naive, innocent KITT with his primary directive to protect human life... and the bloodthirsty HK-47.

   Now I really feel old...

Especially since just today, I read a piece about one of the original cars going up for sale

Only $150K, too...

Actually, didn't they have this kind of thing on Babylon 5, too?

Pretty much. Instead of the ubiqutious comm-badge from Star Trek, B5 military personnel had a rather badge looking comm.link on the back of their hand. Leading at least ONE young viewer to wonder if they were glued on somehow or if having one surgically atttached to your hand was part of joining the B5 military.

So in a way, it's a double-reference
