   This makes me wonder if the crew are familiar with Wagakki Band, who got their start doing covers of songs originally written for Vocaloids.

Now adays they do some very nice rock with traditional Japanese instruments and some incredible stage show bits. Very much the kind of thing where watching the video is -so- much more than just listening to the music. They're all over youtube. (I recommend 'Senbonzakura' and 'Isuca' for first videos to look for. At work so I can't dig up links.)
