"STO, again, maybe"

   Hi,

It's about time to think about playing STO again, at least when I get bored of BG3, and I wonder if anyone here still plays it; and if so if they've noticed whether the loud population have stopped being transphobic, nazis, or otherwise generally bigotted?

L.

I haven't touched it in years, although I have to say, the last time I did, I didn't notice any of the above. Then again, that may be as much because I go out of my way to interact with The Community as little as possible on the occasions when I play online multiplayer games...

One would think that Star Trek would be inclusive and tolerant, but then, like half of the fan base doesn’t seem to understand that its *always* been ‘woke’, it’s just that their views haven’t changed from the late 60s, while Trek has evolved.

I'm pretty much incapable of avoiding the chat, particularly since I really
like being helpful when possible. It's always been kind of pad on ESD (but
there's never been any content in ESD chat so turning that off isn't too bad)
but some during the Trump years it spread out to all the actually useful
channels, except the strictly functional ones with strong moderation.

*sigh*

Wow, did I never finish the Discovery-era questline? I bet there's a reason for that which I can't remember now...

--G.
besides the fact that I've never watched anything set in that era and don't get any of the references, that is

Discovery specifically, or have you also not watched Strange New Worlds?

SNW is great, and I’m one of the weirdos who actually kinda liked Discovery. Initial Klingon designs aside. Won’t say it didn’t have its problems though...but that’s almost every show. Trek especially often stumbles its first season, sometimes two. (Or it’s last, as with TOS. And both first *and* last with TNG)

Nope, nothing in that era. More completely, nothing produced since Star Trek Into Darkness.

Don't feel bad about Discovery because you haven't missed much. Remember when they were first talking up the series way back before the premiere and stated that, as part of this brand new foray into Trek television, they wanted a series where the focus of the story was on someone other than the captain?

Yeah, well apparently whoever sent the instructions to the writing team wrote down "Turn her into a 'Mary Sue'" instead.

Honestly, Lower Decks, SNW and Prodigy are pretty fantastic start to finish. Well, start with Lower Decks second episode if you ever try it. The pilot episode leans very heavily on 'from the creators of rick and morty' to get the execs to greenlight the show, then turned into a love letter to the franchise the moment they weren't looking.

Oh god, you guys, you gotta start being more careful with the turbolift maintenance. This is not going to look good on my record.

Since this popped to the top (and I find investigating Klingon Intelligence funny too); I report that things are less bad, but turning zone chat off and joining a nice fleet helps a lot. Even if noone ever talks in the fleet channel.
