As an aside, this is the thumbnail Calli used for the stream above:
And just because of the white background, many people in chat were gesturing feebly from their fainting couches in protest of the multiple heart attacks it gave them. Now, leaving aside for the moment the fact that being Calliope Mori is literally the keystone of her entire career, which is thundering along great guns at the moment: what kind of psychopath would choose that as the pose for a graduation announcement stream's thumbnail, then title the stream "let's celebrate"? I understand that a lot of us are scarred from the first half of this year. I am too. But jeez, guys. You gotta do something about that context blindness. --G. -><- Benjamin D. >I understand that a lot of us are scarred from the first half of this >year. I am too. But jeez, guys. You gotta do something about that >context blindness. I guess it's a sign of how out of the loop I've been of late that I saw the thumbnail and just assumed it was yet another karaoke stream. There's a part of me that genuinely believes that Calli will be the last of the "old breed" to go. And that the only appropriate way to end her graduation stream will be with her turning off the lights as she closes the door behind her. -------------------------- CdrMike, Overwatch Reject "You know, the world could always use more heroes." - Tracer, Overwatch |

HoloEN Promise 2nd Anniversary Concert Promise2U Pros: Some great song choices, amazing choreo, Bae being her usual explosive self, my favorite song from Persona 5, really cool virtual stage. Cons: Really weird intermission skit, some of the lighting effects were way too bright. Overall: Great show, will rewatch. Probably skip the skit. Your mileage may as always vary. --G. -><- Benjamin D. >It isn't graduation, but Raora jumpscared us with the >White Thumbnail of Doom this >morning about something serious. It's a hiatus for throat surgery. After a certain other pink lady permanently injured herself Pushing Through™ an illness, I just hope she's serious about waiting as long as medically necessary before coming back. Recovery from surgery is no joke under any circumstances, but this particular type of surgery is, based on what I've read, especially sensitive to patient behavior post-op. --G. -><- Benjamin D. >After a certain other pink lady permanently injured herself >Pushing Throughâ„¢ an illnessIn fairness, it would take elephant tranquilizers to keep Calli down for as long as she needed to stay down. >I just hope she's serious about >waiting as long as medically necessary before coming back. A fan already put together a Cone of Shame pic for Raora, it'd be funny if she actually had one on return. In all seriousness though, hoping the same thing, and hopefully her friends and Hololive coworkers remind her to stay down until she's fully healed. "This is probably a stupid question, but . . ." |

Having gone for literal decades without learning much of anything about the Dragonball franchise, beyond finding its fanbase so annoying in the mid-'90s that I banned even mentioning it around here for a few years, I decided what the hell, I might as well watch Calli play Dragonball Z: Kakarot. She's not, though, or at least she claims she knew no more about it than I do before she started playing the game. (People in chat keep saying things like "oh, this was way gorier in the anime. And took 25 episodes." :) She's reacting to it very differently than I am, though. She seems to be very much on board with its ridiculousness. Me... well, I rode that train for as long as I could take it. I never thought I'd be nostalgic for the storytelling coherence of Elden Ring... --G. -><- Benjamin D. Or maybe it was someone else, because my lizard brain insists there was somebody who identified as a fan in HoloEN. >She's reacting to it very differently than I am, though. She seems to >be very much on board with its ridiculousness. Me... well, I rode >that train for as long as I could take it. I never thought I'd be >nostalgic for the storytelling coherence of Elden Ring... Yeah, that was why I never got into the franchise when it first became popular back in the mid/late-90s, because while others were oohing and awing to the fights that took half a season to conclude, I was reading Gunnm and watching fandubs of Evangelion. But I can also remember never understanding my cousin's fascination with "professional" wrestling, so perhaps there's a pattern there... -------------------------- CdrMike, Overwatch Reject "You know, the world could always use more heroes." - Tracer, Overwatch |

Being entirely fair to Dragonball, it makes more sense when it isn't broken up by filler (Either as time killer things in the anime, because the series and manga were going pretty much side by side and 12-20 pages of manga goes a lot faster than a 22 minute episode, or to actually, y'know, be a game). I can't think of any Dragon Ball game that is as coherent a story as even the TV show, let alone the original manga, just because it can't hit everything beat for beat (And there's a certain amount of abridging for what they *do* actually replicate pretty closely). Games based on an anime series aren't meant to be the way you actually consume the story, they're meant to be a way to relive and interact with the story you're already invested in. I expect that's the same with books. I know it is with western movies, for sure. |

LAST EDITED ON Feb-08-26 AT 12:40 PM (EST) Calliope Mori AS Asura inANGRY DAD (I couldn't find a small enough picture of the Simpsons reference I'm making) But seriously, Asura's Wrath is friggin' breathtaking, and I wish it were on Steam. |

LAST EDITED ON Feb-09-26 AT 04:47 PM (EST) Tonight, Raora revealed her newest Live2D outfit. It's a maid costume. I think it's based on the maid costume she doodled during a drawing stream, like... a year ago.A few weeks ago, she revealed a different outfit she designed, this one as part of a collab with Monster Hunter. It's based on the MonHun monster Rathalos (which immediately resulted in it being nicknamed "Raothalos"), and... is also a maid costume. Does anyone else in Holo have two different maid outfits? Or two costumes they designed themselves? I feel like this has to be some sort of milestone. --G. -><- Benjamin D. Beeg cat means beeg wardrobe! Especially when it's costumes she's... ... maid herself --- "She's old, she's lame, she's barren too, // "She's not worth feed or hay, // "But I'll give her this," - he blew smoke at me - // "She was something in her day." -- Garnet Rogers, Small Victory FiMFiction.net: we might accept blatant porn involving the cast of My Little Pony but as God is my witness we have standards. i await your booing with the usual anticipation |

> Does anyone else in Holo have two different maid outfits? Well, she's gone now, but I think Aqua might have... > Or two costumes they designed themselves? I'm glad they're letting the girls do more work for the company than just be talents, if you get me. Ina, Callie, and Sana always had Other Things they were doing art-wise, and Callie was able to do the art for her videos a couple of times, but now they're letting them just straight up work for each other. I seem to recall Raora having done actual vtuber design work before, so it'd make sense she'd be the one to have multiple self-made outfits already, knowing how to break it up for ease of rigging and whatnot - after a quick lookup, yeah, she designed....eight vtubers, including herself. (Her not-Raora self, that is.) I don't think anyone else in the company has anywhere near the same level of vtuber design experience she has. |
