"what's to do in Boston?"
|
I'm going on vacation next month to Boston, which is kind of Ironic since I live in one of the vacation states (Near Ft. Lauderdale FL) to visit some friends.. I'm pretty SURE we're gonna see the Sox play the A's Friday nite while I'm up.. and I'm thinking of hitting the Bull and Finch before or maybe after that.. Like what else is there to do? I'll be up there on the 11th - 13th, and I was wondering IF anybody knew any cool spots or might want to hook up with somebody from the net?BTW I am seriously thinking about ending my Fanfic retirement.. Yes I used to write (well try to) I did write one short little bugger that people liked, I wrote "Last Caress" over in ACFF (alt.comics.fan-fiction) and on CFAN. Who'd be interested in running a RR somewhere on here? Well I have to Work.. the clock she's a ticking! laters Fan Random Quote of the Moment "Well it could be worse." "How Fan?" "We could have My car, and yet it still could be worse." "Uhm How?" "We could have your kids with us and Have my car." My part of an aborted RR that was a supposed to be a sequel to "You Brought me where?" with Me, Frito and M-Nute having a conversation on the situation of being stuck in SubReality... BTW My car is an throphy winning 1988 Pontiac Firebird.. Ohh yeah it does 16.9 @ 80 MPH pretty much BONE stock and with some hardware probelms |

>Like what else is there to do? Depends on what you're into. I'm told the Boston Science Museum is excellent, although I must make the shameful confession that, the only time I was there, it was closed (I was there to see a movie, and the Mugar Omni Theatre keeps different hours than the museum itself). There are a number of clubs in the Central Square area of Cambridge (Central Square stop on the Red Line), if you're looking for local music and all the cigarette smoke you can eat. Downtown is chock full of Historical Significance, what with Faneuil Hall, the Bunker Hill Memorial, USS Constitution, and so forth. >Who'd be interested in running a RR somewhere on here? What? There isn't enough room or bandwidth here to run a railroad. --G. -><- Benjamin D. Hutchins, Co-Founder, Editor in Chief, Netadmin Eyrie Productions, Unlimited http://www.eyrie-productions.com/

It has to just be a matter of time. They're releasing Cannonball Run this summer, fer cryin out loud. (Cannonball Run II has been on dvd for a while now) It's high on my list of wants on dvd. That and Convoy. Heh. My wall-o-dvd's is pretty...diverse. >Either way, I still don't know what the hell he meant by "RR".
Oh, I assumed you did. Pretty sure he means a Round Robin, setting up a storyline with several people and having each person write a peice in order, with the next writer feeding off the events of the last. Can have interesting results if done well, or really pathetic ones if done poorly. If you didn't know. If you do, then, cool. You do. ImproFanFic has gobs and gobs of round robin stories, and it's actually about a fifty/fifty split between original and fanfiction, all of it with an anime flair. We've attempted a few of those on the GweepNet internal newsgroups, but never called them that; the first one was "The Continuing Saga", and so I tend to just think of them as "sagas". The last one, The Epic, never went anywhere, which is too bad, because I was quite fond of the character I'd invented for it. --G. -><- Benjamin D. Also, after a little research and an afternoon of bumrushing Napster, I compiled and burned a Real Genius Soundtrack (they never released an official one). I managed to get all but one of the songs that are listed in the end credits (as well as on the imdb), and that song was never recorded to a real album anyway, so I'm probably glad I didn't find it. I added some quotes to flesh it out and whipped up some labels for the disc and jewel case, and voila, the one soundtrack I always wanted but never could get. Also, the basic list I used is at: http://us.imdb.com/Soundtracks?0089886 The song that I couldn't find is 'The Tuff Do What' by Tonio k. I have a feeling it was a friend-of-the-producer/director deal, and probably only exists on a bit of tape over at Paramount somewhere. I might be convinced to make a few copies as well. Drop an email if you're really interested in that. Keeping in mind that I reserve the right to play god if everyone who subscribes to this forum sends me email asking for one. ;) --------------------------- "I think we used too much." --------------------------- Chad Collier Digital Bitch J. >This requires, of course, that the compiler post a track list for the >rest of us, thus saving us the effort of looking it up on our own. ;) As promised, here's my tracklist with quotes used: 1. Carmen McRae - You Took Advantage of Me 2. the 'standing on a pyramid in sun-god robes' quote 3. Don Henley - All She Wants to Do is Dance 4. "That's a wonderful story Bodie. I've noticed you've stopped stuttering." "I've been giving myself shock treatments." "Up the voltage." 5. Y & T - Summertime Girls 6. "Can you hammer a six inch spike through a board with your penis?" "Not right now." "Girl's gotta have her standards." 7. Bryan Adams - One Night Love Affair 8. The afore-quoted "Think before you ask these questions, Mitch." scene 9. The Comsat Angels - I'm Falling 10. "I was thinking of the immortal words of Socrates who said, 'I drank what?'" 11. The Call - The Walls Came Down 12. The System - Pleasure Seekers 13. Laslo's explanation of how he intends to win the Frito Lay sweepstakes. "Well, this batch makes 1,650,000. I should win 32.6% of the prizes, including the car." For some reason, although I know it's probably way off base, I always associate Vaughn with Laslo. :) 14. Chas Jankel - Number One 15. The Textones - Standing in Line 16. Jordan and Mitch in the bathroom "Are you done?" "Uhh, I can't start." "Because I'm here?" "I think so." ::pause:: "Weird." (Gods and Goddesses bless Jordan :) ) 17. Paul Hyde and the Payola$ - You're the Only Love 18. "OK GOD! LEMME HAVE IT!" 19. Tears for Fears - Everybody Wants to Rule the World 20. "What's this?!" "It's a laser beam, bozo!" "What's it for?!" "Not what, where!" "What?!?" "Follow it! It's a suprise!" 21. Chaz Jenkel - Number One (12" Remix) (found it on napster, possibly on a lark. You're basic mid-80's remix, but it's my favorite song out of the bunch and it seemed like a nifty way to end the disc.) There you have it. Makes a great little cd, IMHO. You aren't looking hard enough. long Yahoo Yellow Pages URL here I used Pompano as a starting point, have at it. It's been a while since I've actually lived in Broward, but I used to go to a place on Oakland Park Blvd just west of University called the Comic and Gaming Exchange which used to be a great shop at the time. Can't vouch for it now, but it's worth a look. By the above list it's still there, and apparently also calling itself one of the Past Present & Future Comics as well (there's one of those up in West Palm Beach on Military Trail between Belvedere and Okeechobee Blvd. which is a *huge* store, and they have several scattered up and down the coast). --------------------------- "I think we used too much." --------------------------- Chad Collier Digital Bitch J. >I didn't look really, thought one might jump out at me, and I do sorta >live and play in South Broward.. Ahh, well, you can adjust that search to where ever you are. If nothing else, the Comic & Gaming Exchange is worth a weekend drive at least. >How long ago did you live down here? >maybe we sorta know the same people? I graduated from Coconut Creek High in 1990 (The Pompano/Margate/North Lauderdale area) and moved up to West Palm with my parents later that year. Moved up to Tallahassee to go to FSU in '92, graduated there in '96 and moved out to the Los Angeles area shortly thereafter. My parents run a family buisness in Oakland Park that's been around since '61. I get back to see the 'rents as often as I can manage, and I still have a one or two friends out in West Broward, so I get down there when I'm in town as well. Being a semi-regular visitor to Boston, I figured I'd add my 2 <insert currency here> >Depends on what you're into. I'm told the Boston Science Museum is >excellent...yes! it is very cool of course, you kind of have to respect anywhere that has daily demonstrations of a 60 foot tall Van DeGraaf generator...most impressive >There are a number of clubs in the Central Square area of Cambridge >(Central Square stop on the Red Line), if you're looking for local >music and all the cigarette smoke you can eat. Downtown is chock full >of Historical Significance, what with Faneuil Hall, the Bunker Hill >Memorial, USS Constitution, and so forth. Other places I'd recommend
- Durgen Park (in quincy market)...pretty damn good food, not TOO expensive...and it's been around since well before my dad went to school there (he graduated in the '60s)
- Toscanini's - if you're an ice cream lover (show of hands? oh, stop lying already and raise your damn hand :) There are several of these, but the one I'm familiar wiht is in the MIT Student Union...I recommend their German Chocolate Chocolate ice cream with hot fudge on top...but I'm a confirmed chocaholic
- Boston Aquarium - very nifty, as long as you like aquariums...last itme I was there they had a huge penguin exhibit on the main floor...I had to restrain myself from shouting, "Pen Pen!" :)
- Freedm Trail - a walking trail past many of the bit tourist sites...a word to the wise, though...if you're visiting in June/July, you may want to avoid this, or bring lots of sunblock, and LOTS of water
I'm sure there's more, but those are all the ones I can think of |
