"Teaser: Fulcrum I"

[Well, if I can't sleep, I might as well at least post one last taste of Fulcrum I for you. The full episode is probably coming out tomorrow - er, later today - ... Friday. If I have the time in the afternoon to finish it off and give it a last coat of wax. If not, Saturday.]

Emmy followed Vader down a dark and sinister tunnel and
wondered why she kept doing this kind of thing. She didn't even know
what planet they were on.
It's all right, she told herself. He's just testing me. I'm
a Jedi Knight. I can handle being in a creepy tunnel. With Darth
Vader.
Sure.
She considered asking him where they were, where they were
going, but decided against it. If he wanted her to know, he'd have
told her. The fact that he hadn't meant he was waiting for something,
and he had a much finer sense for that kind of thing than she had. At
any rate, there was no way she could -make- him tell her... so she
would just have to trust him.
Trust... Darth Vader.
An interesting sensation, to say the least.

Emmy mentoring from the Dark Lord In Shadows? Whoah. I like where this is going, especially the way she seems so ambivilant about it all. I can hardly wait to see this. Of course, knowing you, Gryphon, you'll probably give us some cliff-hanger ending to leave us demanding more. Ah well, that's the trademark of the business. More power to ya, man.

I'm actually not as surprised as all that. I couldn't help but wonder if Emmy would fall, at least partially, after Road Movie to Naboo. She's emotional by nature, and despite being the better duelist between herself and Len, managed to lose consistently in nearly everything she did...and on top of that, she was rescued by whom she was taught to be the most horrific nemesis of her family and the Light Side itself. I figure she didn't, thanks to the reference to her (by Len) in Blades, but I'd be surprised if she didn't go through some crisis of faith.

Who says Emmy's falling? This is after The Revolution Will Be Televised, remember, where the Jedi got shaken up by Utena into doing a bottom-up review of all their training practices - and also, Aldous Gajic has never struck me as one of the more hard-ass Jedi Masters, if you take my meaning. (It's not mentioned whether he was in attendance on Alderaan in Revolution - I doubt it myself, as he doubtless felt that training two padawans was more important - but I would bet fifty dollars to a bag of cheap doughnuts that he agreed with the propositions put forth by Utena.)

We know from RMTN that there was already something going on there, so I'm looking forward to seeing what G. comes up with. (We know from Blades that Vader ends up fighting, after his own, ah, unique, fashion, for the right, so it all has to turn out right in the end. Right?)

You're right, he wasn't there, but he's directly mentioned by Lock at one point in Revolution. It's when Lock's considering the audience, he thinks to himself that some of Gajic's serenity would have been useful for the Council to consider. He regrets that Gajic didn't show up for just that reason.

It seems to me that, at least in the UF universe, one does not necessarily have to fall to follow the Dark Side. After all, Vader himself isn't exactly evil by the time Blades occurs. Obtenebrated, but not evil. :)

Probably not so much a fall as a different route. It seems, roughly, that in UF the Jedi are to Captain America as the Righteous Sith are to Batman (yes, I know, different companies, but I think it holds up anyway.)

Another thoroughly enjoyable opening to a story arc. Here's hoping
that this one goes well.

As always with EPU, I appreciate the little touches. (I'd call them
throwaways, if so many of them didn't develop into full-blown stories)

-"You ought to know that Mom's alive." Bam! I've been waiting for
that since she disappeared. Now the problem becomes finding the time
and resources to -do- something about it when there are so many other
irons in the fire.

-Hermione Granger as padawan to Hercule Poirot...what a beautiful
picture.

-M'yl'ya's family, as has already been mentioned, is -fabulous-.

-Did Vader just -eat- Quevas XIII's soul?

-I desperately want to see O'bi-Wann and Saionji have a gripe session
about their students...

All in all, well done!

Thank you.

-z

Time, well, I'm sure Gryphon will MAKE time. Resources, that's a bigger problem.

You know, I'm actually more pleased to see her as a Jedi knight, for some reason. She's still able to bask in knowledge and mysticism, but not forced to play second fiddle to Harry in combat solely because of destiny. I notice he's not even mentioned, and while I don't virulently hate Harry, I do wish the others would shine on occasion. (Especially Hermione; I'm all for the learned type.) Dunno about Poirot, though, I haven't read any of those books.

I had a flashback to Soulcatcher from the Black Company books with that scene, though I feel rather certain there's no influence from that here. I have a sneaking suspicion her helmet, though, was inspired by Vader's...
