"TFLF 10"

To celebrate the fact that I gotta go have a dang MRI tomorrow, here's a little bonus on the day: the first lines of TFLF Chapter 10, "Love Has No Brakes":

Azusa Nakano was a bad person.

She had to assume this, because in the midst of this most dark and difficult of times for the Light Music Club, it suddenly dawned on her that she had never felt more happy or fulfilled in her entire life.

I can understand why she'd feel that way, though. The club is finally doing what she's always wanted. They're getting serious about music.

   -Damn-.

That was a fantastic episode. That's about all I'm good for at the moment, since it's still processing. I'll probably have to reread it to get the full weight of it on board.

Actually, no, I do have one thing to say. I know this is only the second episode since the events of Taken By Storm, and there is likely a good deal more to come; but as regards the handling of the HTT girls' entrance into the wider world that their teacher(s) inhabit? In that sense, as in very many other, it has been -superbly- handled.

Bravo, sir.

Well, we saw Corwin adopt her, so it's not terribly surprising, is it? ^_^

Given that the last time we saw her she was an Enemy Combatant, I would have thought it'd be at least a little noteworthy, particularly since it's been all of a week.

Yeah, but its CORWIN. This sort of thing is what he does, darn it. Think back to Domon and Rain in Arena.

And we saw him basicly evoke his powers on Iona; Especially with Touga being given his final curtain I see no reason for her not to have totally transfered her affection and loyalty to Corwin after that exhibition.

Just on a point of order, I'm reasonably sure she didn't have any affection for Touga.

I am complete agreement with you, cause... hey, TOUGA. I was thinking more along the lines of her former assigned commander is now completely and totally defunct, ergo no possible conflicts in her transferring her feelings and loyalties etc to Corwin as her replacement CO

Precisely. They've had a _whole week_ to work on her. That's about how long it took to straighten Saionji out IIRC.

As I observed, she's just discovered God - or, more accurately, her god. If Corwin's position as god of Mecha doesn't specifically cover members of the Fleet of Fog, it's probably the closest match they'll have for a long time.

I noticed. Will we find out what happened to her between the end of Taken By Storm and her appearance here? Obviously Corwin now trusts her not to attempt resuming hostilities, but how have the last few days affected her?

Come to think of it, do we know how the loss of her ship might affect her? I don't think it came up in the Annotations thread.

>Taken By Storm and her appearance here?

Oh yes. I'm not certain yet whether it will be part of Movement 6, or dealt with separately as an entr'acte, but yes, that will be dealt with.

>Come to think of it, do we know how the loss of her ship might affect
>her? I don't think it came up in the Annotations thread.

Well, in the TV series, several Mental Models survived the sinking of their ship parts without any evident ill effects, other than being put out that they'd lost most of their firepower. ... Well, and Hyūga seems to have gone insane, but I think she might've been anyway. :)

The Union Core (the important-looking nexus-y bit that Corwin noticed inside Iona) is the only critical piece. Highlight the rest of this paragraph to see some spoilers. Heck, Kirishima survived both the sinking of her ship and the destruction of her Mental Model's body. The only reasons she has to spend most of the series as an animated teddy bear are a) for psy-ops purposes and b) because the writers thought it would be funnier. There's also evidence that Hyū existed as a disembodied Union Core for some time between her sinking and the point at which she decided to construct a Mental Model, and Takao replaced her Mental Model after donating it, along with all the rest of her nanomaterial, to rebuild I-401 toward the end of the series.

So apart from possibly being traumatized by the way in which it was done - Corwin really didn't intend to be quite that rough, but he was a bit agitated - Iona shouldn't experience any lasting aftereffects from the sinking of I-401, apart from the obvious inconvenient of not having it any more. (Actually playing around with a bit that addresses that part this evening, a little.)

Was that just sinking, as in mostly-intact-but-full-of-water-and-not-floating, or as happened to Iona, abruptly reduced to a pile of inactive nanomaterial?

Thanks for the spoiler info, you're going to make me go "hmmm..." a lot until Iona's next appearance. :)

Oh, yeah, sorry - sinking as in destruction, not actual submergence. Haruna and Kirishima, for instance, ended up as big drifts of silver sand on a beach near Yokosuka, while Haruna turned up on the other side of a Haruna-shaped hole in a warehouse wall several miles away with Kirishima's Union Core in her pocket. Since their propulsion systems are gravity-manipulation-based, most Fog ships are, in fact, submersible, even if they don't represent ships that were in real life (Takao, for instance, lurks around submerged while her Mental Model goes book shopping at one point).
