6. "RE: Achtung--Käfer!"

I don't think I've ever driven a car with a turbo, but the ginormous lag time between input and Go sounds familiar, because that is a definite feature of the CVT gearing on my 2012 Subaru. Like the Beetle, it has a Flappy Paddle option, which I understand allows those who are initiated in their mysteries to sidestep the CVT's insistence on the three-second process of trying all possible gearing ratios less than what you actually need, but by the nature of my driving commute I need to be making sharp turns into busy traffic... ...and the Flappy Paddles turn with the wheel. Which, um, I've got better things to worry about (like not getting pasted by an overloaded coal truck doing thirty-five in a twenty-five zone down the crammed full main drag) than having a panic attack because shiftshiftWHERE'STHEFUCKINGLEVERITWASTHEREASECONDAGO!. Next time I'll suck it up and learn to deal with Subaru's fiddly finicky manual shifters the way I'd originally planned to, and hang the milage. ----- The most wonderful thing about BBs Is BBs are wonderful things Their sides are made out of iron Their guns are made out of pain They're crashy smashy bashy flashy fun-fun-fun-fun-fun But the most wonderful thing about BBs Is there is more than one The~re is more than one! |
