"A thought to wake Utena up"

Utena is going to wake up in the middle of the night with a sudden realization:

There is no way that, when Corwin and Anthy get married, she'll be able to get out of officiating the ceremony.

She's gotten married twice, but she's never performed a marriage herself, what will she do?

And then Corwin or Anthy will remind her that she'll do what she always does in that kind of situation: her best.

She's going to be so very tempted to borrow the old routine.

Utena: "Do you?"

Corwin: "I do."

Utena: "Do you?"

Anthy, moderately bemused: "I do."

Utena: "Right. Kiss 'er! You're married!"

Audience: "........."

Akio: "Hey! I'm here to crash the wedding! Give me back my sister!"

Everyone: *fills Akio full of whatever weapons fire they prefer*

Mel Brooks has a couple of potential options for pacing and dialogue, but his schtick doesn't seem -quite- Utena's style - I'd see it more that someone would show up and she'd step in front of the couple and continue performing the ceremony while fighting a duel, quite possibly skipping the ring thing for some kind of mystical heart-sword dealie.

Then again she could opt to go Princess Bride, just like my Best Man and Peg's Maid of Honor did at our wedding reception lo these many years ago:

I'm picturing the wedding scene from Pirates: At World's End.

"Utena! Marry us!"
"I'm a little busy at the moment!"

Ooh - yes, that's a good point of reference there. I can see this.

>Ooh - yes, that's a good point of reference there. I can see this.

In the course of picking my way gingerly through the horrendously stressful and yet occasionally very rewarding combination nuclear waste dump and gold mine that is the continuum of Touhou dōjinshi, I ran across one in which a couple of characters* were getting married, and their mothers freaked out about the whole "yuri wedding" thing and tried to stop them. Via 2v2 wizard duel, of course, because Touhou.

The fun twist on it was that, instead of fighting off the interlopers and then doing the thing, the brides in question went through with the various steps of the ceremony while having the fight, such that they finished off the opposition and concluded the ritual with the same action. And then everyone's smiling in the wedding photo together, because in Gensōkyō, if you lose a wizard duel over a difference of opinion, you cheerfully accept the new status quo. That's the rule, except when it isn't. :)

So even though I haven't seen the movie referenced above (I've only seen the first Pirates film and about half of the second), I still get a nice visual out of this, and it's of the three of them trying to get the damn ceremony done and fight off the bad guys at the same time.

It takes a special kind of officiant to deliver the entire "to have and to hold, etc." riff—twice—while simultaneously swashing bucklers, and never mind expecting the bride and groom to remember all of their lines.

"With this ring,** I thee wed—"

"RAAAAARRRGGHH!!"

"Not you!" (WHACK) "You have issues, where was I?"

As a triad marriage, might I suggest a set of three-ring puzzle rings? With each band in an appropriate material for each member; I might suggest trilithium steel for Utena, mahogany for Anthy, and mithril for Corwin.

Because my mind works like this, this gives me the notion of Sakuya filling Remilia and the others in on Gryphon's extended family by photos from all three weddings.

Gryphon: "That last one hasn't happened yet in my timeline."
Remilia: "You don't have to look the photos, dear."
Flandre: "Who's the slimey looking one with the bad tan?"
Gryphon: "What was Akio Ohtori doing at Corwin and Anthy's marriage?"
Sakuya: "Well he wasn't _invited_."
Meiling: "That explains why the bride is standing on him."

D.

Yep. You clearly have the idea down :-)

True, but these -are- exceptional people.

Lot of options - you can stack 'em, or have a secondary ring added, or skip the rings altogether and do the necklace thing or - this being a nice high magic setting - use any of the -other- magically significant items they've collected. Or swords. Or, hell, given Corwin, have him build a mecha for Anthy. XD
