Well, small bits of it are new, but we wrote most of it long ago. :-) We just finally tied up the loose ends and put on a little polish to kick it out the door.

Umm, it was what I said when I checked new.html and saw that there was a new eyrie story. After that came "Holy F***, it's a WL story!", then a "STFU, I'm reading Eyrie." I figured that w000tt would be the best one of the three...

   Well now...

There certainly was a lot going on in this one - not what I expected out of a WL episode, but only because there wasn't a major martial arts fight. A good read, I just really hope that there's more coming since there's a couple of major loose ends in the series...

Yea, I hope that, too. The amount of Rabid Crackweasel voices in the collective of voices that is my mind has already doubled and I just finished reading Battle 05 two minutes ago.

Crazy Taxi is the most fun driving game for people who are bad at driving games. I stink at them in general, but it doesn't matter so much when you're tearing about San Francisco and seeing how fast you can take Lombard street. :)

   Whee!

Now that was FUN. Personally, I was half-expecting Rose to take Sakura in, but this makes things much more interesting.

Okay, in an attempt to sidestep Rule No. 1, does this mean you guys are actively working on WL again, or was this just something to clear out brainspace?

Keep in mind that WL was something we released *one a year* for a while. So even if we do start working on it more actively, don't expect it to start coming like like SotS or something. ;-)

It was fun to wrap this one up. As for Battle 06 - who knows? We'll get to it.

All of which makes the fact that there IS some new WL even MORE worthy of celebration, since the production schedule on it isn't as frantic as SotS. ^_^

Production schedule? There is no production schedule. That's very important to remember. As for franticness, that's more complicated, but still nothing non-IRCers need to worry about.

Warrior's Legacy was what got me reading Eyrie in the first place; I'm rather excited that there's (finally) a new episode out. The first time I came across it, only the first two episodes were up; it seems fairly soon after that, though I can't remember how long it actually was, that Battle 03 was released.

(You know, it's bad enough with my own characters, but then other people's characters stop in to kibitz. I've got a fricking Fanfic Diner in my head.)

Geeze, that just gave me an image of one of those cheesy prints you see in mall framing/painting/print shops, the kind with James Dean and Marilyn Monroe and Humphrey Bogart and god knows who else all hanging around in some kind of dive just being too utterly cool for words -- except it's populated by random fic characters instead... urk.

"Boulevard of Broken Dreams."

IIRC, you got everyone except the guy behind the counter, which, I believe, is Jimmy Stewart.

My mother used to have it hanging up in the living room, when I was living with her in Connecticut.

Yeah, that's the original, but there's a whole slew of imitators, too -- pool halls, diners, bars, you name it.

What's worse is when you end up in there yourself, a few of your characters (or other peoples) demanding more attention. I've lost more story ideas that way.

OK, so I know how Rose handled G's fear of heights and you don't, which means you had no way of knowing you would cause this, but the notion of G applying the same basic method to confront this particular topic with his own student gives me an image I just did not need.

Not that I mind it... but I did not need it. :)

Actually, the concept I was aiming at was 'You're the Valdritkar; you deal with it, like I had to deal with YOUR little mental tweaks'.

Well, after looking up Nabokov, (or more specifically, the book I'd imagine Gryphon is referring to) I'm forced to speculate how Rose could have done -that- and had it have anything to do with acrophobia. Oooo-kaaaay...

No, no, you misunderstand me. If you accept the old saw that the best way to overcome the fearsome and/or the unknown is to confront it head-on, then the struggle with heights isn't really all that noteworthy ("Learn how punch when learn how keep dry," as Mr. Miyagi might have put it), but its converse in the next generation becomes... interesting. In a "when did I wander into a backchannel dojinshi" kind of way, anyway.

And in a "that's illegal in the state of Massachussetts" way, too, depending on how old Sakura is at the time.

However, I believe the age of consent is lower in NH and/or ME (I forget, exactly). Which still doesn't address the whole father figure/legal guardian issues.

Yes, well, almost everything is illegal in the state of Massachusetts. One of these days we'll pass a law making it at least a Class D felony to spell the name of the state with five s's.

>However, I believe the age of consent is lower in NH and/or ME (I

Uh, yeah, significantly (in Maine, anyway). Of course, there's a Federal law against crossing state lines for the purpose of exploiting such differences in local regulation, but hey - there's a Federal law against stealing stuff from Area 51, too. :)

Anyway, if you're genuinely worried about it, this isn't a direction I expect to wander off in - it's just where the chain of neural linkups that started at Geoff's post led, somewhat to my chagrin. Leaving aside for the moment the fact that I wouldn't relish the ensuing pissing match over Warrior's Legacy's crypto-lolicon subtext, it doesn't strike me as particularly in character.

No; it wouldn't really fit with the feel of the universe, I don't think. I was just pointing out some of the ramification, at least some of which would probably occur to Gryph :). (I'd think that the whole father-figure issue would warn him off of that form of education, or, at least, being the teacher himself...)

See above. I mean, yeah, Gryph's been cured of his nervousness around women, but he's still probably not the kind of person who would go for that particular solution to matters, particularly given that the Cammy thing is unresolved.

No, but this is our fiftieth post, so if people want to say anything more about Battle 05 they'd best do it in a new thread. :)

MAAAAAAAAAAAAAN, that kick total ass! I laughed a bit to loud though when gryphon won 627 000$ at Blackjack with Sakura under his arm(so to speak)as a "good luck charm". the fight seane was, for the most part a bit too subdue, but the car chase seane more then made up for it. when Sakura through that Shinkuu Hadoken, it got me to thinking; "she MUST have been practising with Rose during the Area 51 raid". now, what I want to know is, is a Makorov got more stoping power then a PPK? I thought the PPK was stronger. anyways, I thought that Sakura was kidding when she Told Gryphon she was his student, I thought it was going to piss him off even MORE! but, shows what I know. As always, a great read, thought it rocked all, keep'em coming guys, lord knows I'll be waiting for 'um.

Actually, it was 675,000 pounds sterling, which is just shy of a million US dollars. (At the time I wrote the story, the pound was stronger; the total then was about $1.1 million.)

>now, what I
>want to know is, is a Makorov got more stoping power then a PPK? I

It's my understanding that they're about the same. Keep in mind that Bowen's PPK is the proper European model - it's in 7.65mm Browning (aka .32 ACP), as opposed to the entirely unsatisfactory mutant .380 APC "PPK/S" that US import laws have stuck us North Americans with since the late 1960s.

Anyway, stopping power arguments between firearms in the same basic niche (well, the Mak is actually more closely comparable to the PPK's bigger brother, the PP, but still) are largely pointless. The whole concept of "stopping power" is too nebulous to make any comparisons other than large, sweeping ones (like ".45 ACP is better than .22 Long Rifle").

Also note that there is a large difference between a gun's ability to incapacitate an unarmored, human target in a limited number of shots and that same gun's ability to take down the same human through an armored windshield. Some guns will be better at one, others will be better at the other - and that's not even taking ammo into account.

This is largely due to the fact that the Makarov was inspired by (i.e. stole a lot from) the Walther. If anybody cares to read up on it, http://world.guns.ru/handguns/hg00-e.htm has a decent write-up on each.

Although I haven't shot a PPK/S, I rather like the .380 ACP (9x17mm) caliber... I'm accurate with it :)

I suppose it depends on the laws of your local jurisdiction, if any, and the policies of the range in question (which may in turn depend on those of their insurance underwriters). I didn't start going to commercial ranges until I was past that age, so I never had to find out.
