"Non-Touhou Fashion Show"
|
The collision of Danbooru, free time, and main lining some anime series has resulted in a few interesting finds, after indulging in what I think of as 'Danbooru Hard Mode' (aka 'find clean images based on fanservice series characters'.) First up is an image so obvious in retrospect I'm not sure how there aren't hundreds of examples if the type, Ahoy!Mio. Next we have one that almost, but not quite, matches up to in story events vis a vis updates to Mio's sword style. On to an image I didn't think was possible: Witches! In! PANTS! (and shorts and skirts.) This might be the first time I've seen Danbooru artists add clothing to characters compared to their original versions. Here we have what I expect Miyafuji might look like as a 25th century mecha pilot. I have to feel sorry for whoever/whatever managed to make her look that angry. This is something that might be possible in UF if someone describes strikers to Corwin. And now for something completely different, I really want to know what inspired someone to cross Kemono Friends with Youjo Senki (aka Saga of Tanya the Evil, which lives up to its title.)

LAST EDITED ON Jan-06-21 AT 08:20 PM (EST) >Ahoy!Mio. Arrr. To paraphrase Gullivarrrr, the pirate seagull in Animal Crossing, that puts the jolly back in me roger. ... Yes. That is actually a thing a character in Animal Crossing says. Although he probably doesn't mean it the same way. Probably. >Next we have one that almost, but not quite, matches up to in story >events vis a vis updates to Mio's sword style. Eh, close enough. :) >On to an image I didn't think was possible: >Witches! In! PANTS! (and shorts and skirts.) This might be the first time I've seen Danbooru >artists add clothing to characters compared to their original >versions. I like how the comments remark on how odd it is to see them fully dressed, but no one notes how strange it is to see them in modern fashions. Also, fun fact: that device Sanya is holding is a planisphere, which is a sort of mechanical analog computer used to determine what sky objects will be visible and where to look for them at a given time and date in a particular latitude. I've got one kicking around someplace from the astronomy lab course I took, long ago. >Here we have what I expect Miyafuji might look like as >a 25th century mecha pilot. I >have to feel sorry for whoever/whatever managed to make her look that >angry. Possibly whoever convinced her that she had to wear that in order to make the machine work... >This is something that might be possible in UF >if someone describes strikers to Corwin. Very ornate. That's what the Strikers would look like if the Ottoman Empire still existed and had a witch air force in 1946. :) >And now for something completely different, I really want to know what >inspired someone to cross >Kemono Friends with Youjo Senki (aka Saga of Tanya the Evil, which lives up to its >title.) Usually insane team-ups like that are the result of a voice actor collision or the like, although in this case the commentary, what little of it I can make out when Google Translate gets done with it, suggests it's just that they came out at around the same time. I know very little about the other show, but Tanya looks like Katyusha's cousin who has anger management issues. --G. -><- Benjamin D. Well that, or people just forget that Strike Witches is a semi-period piece as well as a show about the power of friendship and fanservice combined for a good cause. >Possibly whoever convinced her that she had to wear that in order to >make the machine work... > Huh, it didn't look like it covered any less of her than her usual combat outfit, but I guess it is more form fitting than the uniform top she wears most often. I always pegged her as the blissfully unconcerned type about such matters though (as opposed to Lynne, who might well become incandescently embarrassed, or Shirly, who is entirely happy to flaunt what she's got with pride.) >Usually insane team-ups like that are the result of a voice actor >collision or the like, although in this case the commentary, what >little of it I can make out when Google Translate gets done with it, >suggests it's just that they came out at around the same time. > >I know very little about the other show, but Tanya looks like >Katyusha's cousin who has anger >management issues. > Not sure if you or anyone is interested enough for a full explanation, and wouldn't just Google it up if you were, but I have to admit to actually laughing out loud at the magnitude of understatement involved in describing Tanya Degurechaff as merely having anger management issues. I give how she ended her first combat engagement as a representative sample.

Oh yeah, also, apropos of nothing: >Tanya Degurechaff D'you suppose her name is supposed to be Tanya Degtyaryov [sic*]? Because "Degtyaryov" is the name of a prominent Soviet weapons designer who was responsible for a number of WWII mainstays, most notably the PTRD-41 anti-tank rifle, which seems like the kind of thing that an anime studio would try to name a character in that kind of setting, and "Degurechaff" is exactly the kind of salad that I would expect to become of a Russian name transliterated into hiragana and then from there to Roman letters. :) --G. * technically it should be "Degtyaryova" for a woman, but that is ALSO the kind of thing non-Russian media people get wrong all the time when naming characters -><- Benjamin D. Character names in the series seem to be a bit hit and miss with basis in reality in general, with one of Tanya's superiors being named Rerugen which seems to be made a made up, somewhat German sounding name, while another is named Rudersdorf, which is an actual location in Germany. And of course there's the seemingly required character named (or nicknamed) Weiss, because if German characters exist in a setting one of them is going to be called that one way or another.

First: Nekomancer Perrine from a friend of a friend.
>This is something that might be possible in UF >if someone describes strikers to Corwin. > This is my commission! I need to fix abysmal quality of the image on Danbooru, because full version is so much better than twitter-resized one you posted, but damn this forum, automatic image insertion messes with my attempts to get high-quality versions as links. Wallpaper,in full, I am very proud of it. Same artist should start drawing Prinzessin Eugenie in Phase 2 soon. |

>"Don't you mean 'necromancer'?" >"No." They gain special class spells at every level, Summon Swarm (feline). The cantrip grade just summons kittens, but the serious versions summon bobcats, leopards, lions, and so on up to the the max level: Summon Swarm (Sabertooth Tigers).

>damn this forum, automatic image insertion messes >with my attempts to get high-quality versions as links. You can usually get image file links to work by adding "?x" to the end of the filename--most web servers take that for a script call, and then, finding no script by that name, just ignore it and serve up the image, but DCF sees the link ending in something other than an image format's extension, so it doesn't try to inline it. It's a clunky trick, but it does usually work. example The code for that looks like this: [link:www.eyrie-productions.com/UF/FI/501/Gothic/GFX/fumo%20fumo%20remi.jpg?x|example] --G. --G. -><- Benjamin D. This is completely irrelevant to the topic, but I thought I should note it all the same. This specific thread, to me, is in a completely different font and text size(significantly smaller) to any other that a quick trawl-through of the forum has found. Don't know if it's my phone acting up or if it's on the forum side, but thought it merited mentioning. ...! Stoke Mandeville, Esq & The Victorian Ballsmiths "Nobody Want Verdigris-Covered Balls!" |

Not sure how I missed this, but anyway: with the admittedly limited range of options I have here (one phone, a couple of computers, two or three browsers on each), I haven't been able to reproduce this, so I can offer no insight as to what might be causing it for you. --G. -><- Benjamin D. LAST EDITED ON Feb-22-21 AT 06:45 AM (EST) This week in Meme Necromancy:Mosquito proving she can scrub up well for the right occasion Twice, in fact!
