"All Those Stars" itself was never intended to be anything but a short, with no directly connected storyline leading to or following it.
However...
The original version was written - well, that's not really accurate... the original version blew my forehead off before Apotheosis Now was more than generally plotted. At that time, I didn't know yet that Asuka was going to pull the stunt she pulled in the Worcester scene of the movie, and that as a result, she was essentially going to end up with a new body; that was one of those serendipitous developments that come along from time to time.
The end result was, much to my dismay, that the original version of "All Those Stars" contained pretty much the same events in pretty much the same order...
... except that "Would you look at all those stars?" were Asuka's last words.
As you might imagine, this was a rather traumatic creative experience. I shoved the whole affair in the back of a drawer, so to speak, and did my best to forget about it for some time.
