"I know people like Boat Stuff around here..."

So have an interesting (tongue-in-cheek, quite-far-left) podcast about engineering disasters! They've just done a two-part, five and a half-hour humorous analysis of the Titanic's construction, design, and the events of the sinking.

You may find the first part here, and you may find the second part here.

They've done a lot of engineering episodes, and some other nautical ones - the Costa Concordia, the MS Estonia, the Piper Alpha fire, and the Byford Dolphin "reducing humans to a soup-like homogenate" incident. I enjoy it very much, and I think you guys might too.

---
"She's old, she's lame, she's barren too, // "She's not worth feed or hay, // "But I'll give her this," - he blew smoke at me - // "She was something in her day." -- Garnet Rogers, Small Victory

FiMFiction.net: we might accept blatant porn involving the cast of My Little Pony but as God is my witness we have standards.

the next episode will not be on the boston molasses flood. the next episode always used to be the tacoma narrows bridge disaster, but they finally did that for a live show.

>Wait, the Byford Dolphin *What*?

Explosive decompression of a diving bell dock/diver recompression rig. The poor bastard who was just about to secure the hatch before one of the tenders opened a valve he shouldn't have opened was... did you ever have a Play-Doh Fun Factory? Like that, except in Planck time, with a human body and a narrow hatch gap.

Seriously, do not look up the Wikipedia page. The description there is... let's go with "much more detailed" than what I just said.

"reducing humans to a soup-like homogenate" really is the most diplomatic way to put it I think
byford dolphin is also a fine example why you never let the bench test model stay in the field, you update it asap
