"Exodus 5:2--The Best Toys"

Technically, it's the day after I said I would post this tomorrow.

Thanks to the vagaries of that bizarre phenomenon we call "time", Neon Exodus Evangelion is no longer set in the future. In an alternate... well, sort of right now, the Langley-Crofts arrive in Japan to see what Misato has in store for them, and how it will shape the coming struggle against the new threat to the world.

Exodus 5:2—"The Best Toys"

--G.
And technically, part of it will still be set in the future until Saturday.

Well yeah. That, and it's an important part of making sure San is kept entertained and mentally active. Otherwise she gets bored. No one wants a repeat of Budapest.

As I understand it, she doesn't have the EVA factor, and her machine is piloted differently.

No one on the XCOM/NERV side really knows. The Soviets weren't involved in the GEHIRN/SEELE/NERV complex and never participated in the Marduk program. As for Защитник, even when they were working closely together with NERV's people in Halifax, Dr. Kirishatov's team kept certain aspects of its inner workings close to the vest, including the control system. It's known to involve an R-grade military neural interface, like the MiG-31F and XCOM's advanced Raiden-DX and Firestorm-class interceptors (and the Archangelions), but they never revealed whether the particular psionic resonance peculiar to Evangelion pilots is required to operate it.

We haven't gotten to the action yet and still, I'm liking this premise a great deal so far. Heck, just seeing the growth and maturity all the Children have experienced since NERV is a breath of fresh air.

I'm curious to see if the In Nomine celestial elements will make a return late in this new series, but for now...yeah. They need to be in the background if not invisible.

I haven't seen the new movies but I fully expect Mari to be another 'Yeah, Anno, THIS is what you should have done with her' moment and I'm hoping it will be as glorious.

Oh, is that who that was? I was trying to puzzle out who this new person was/was based off and followed the wrong reference pointer. I thought maybe Penelope == Penny == Inspector Gadget? Which leaves Parker out of the equation, which is clearly incorrect.

In my defense while I liked Thunderbirds I only ever got to see, like, three episodes? Which were (as I recall very hazily) on during very strange timeslots back when black-and-white TVs were still around (that being what I had at the time).

Pretty much all the Supermarionation shows are great, though my favourites are Captain Scarlet, Thunderbirds, and Stingray in that order. Also: the new Thunderbirds CGI show was actually pretty damn good! So check that out as well.

I love Stingray, truly I do, but I do think one facet in particular has aged poorly: the fact that there's a paramilitary organization called WASP. The World Aquatic Sea Patrol would slot right into UF; WASP sounds like it'd slot right into a Proud Boys demonstration somewhere near a beach.

To which, I am falling over in laugher because of COURSE, with people like XCOM there would be no need for International Rescue (or, more likely given XCOM funding for thing XCOM sees needs doing but does not want to be seen doing!) or perhaps 'folded into' XCOM. Either way, having just recently found the reboot of 2.0 on Amazon prime, where Miri pulls something akin to what Sinji does his... wait. I think its his second or third meeting with Rei. Still Hilarious given the innocence Ano wants Sinji to have at that point.

And a cliff hanger that would be aggravating except that I know that our heroes will emerge victorious in the end.

Personally, I would think it would be the other way around; International Rescue is the publicly-acknowledged, "pretty" operation, while XCOM is built off IR's tech development and hidden within the IR budget. Basically, International Rescue goes in when disasters happen and fixes things up . . . XCOM does the same thing, but for disasters that require the root cause to stop living in order to be fixed.

It does sort of strike one as a bit of kit that falls into the "we had to destroy the village in order to save it" category, doesn't it?
