With the exception of the original conceit in the original core stories, Gryph and co haven't ever "pulled the rug out" from under the audience, like the way say certain comic companies have, but that's another story, and even then, it was handled in a way that escorted the nice real-world author avatars and universal origin stuff off stage so we could get back to the Space Opera stuff. :)"Plausible" is more important than "Realistic" in my book, and as long as the level of elasticity in plausible stays pretty much constant, I think that's how the best sci-fi/fantasy/whatever works....
