Forgive me if this has been said before, but pretty much anything from Starcraft, as long as its via Carbot Animations. Like so: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vLxefatea1Y kinda like Red vs Blue in UF. Please note, I'm only half serious. But the image of ninja leaping SCVs isn't going away. I won't fight you Atton. >And maybe Ruby -- I'm sure she has >the self-control to not shoot an opponent (or the audience) >during a Rose Duel. By an odd coincidence, one of the things that drives me frickin' crazy about that show is that, since Ruby uses her whatever-that-thing-is's gun function as a maneuvering aid about half the time, she is in fact shooting up the whole neighborhood any time she has a fight scene. In that first episode she's firing high-powered rifle rounds in all directions at random without anyone, including the animators, ever seeming to give any consideration to the self-evident fact that they've all got to be hitting something somewhere. That's... not very heroic, and I have to believe was not the intent. --G. -><- Benjamin D. >scene. In that first episode she's firing high-powered rifle rounds >in all directions at random without anyone, including the animators, I shouldn't read these forums so soon after breakfast; on my first read-through this came out as "without hitting anyone, including the animators". Might make her a better prospect for one of those "you can always tell where they've been" teams, though. From what I've read, the majority of personal weapons in RWBY have some Dust component involved with them, even if it's not directly noticeable. Having it stored in cartridges and shells (like Crescent Rose's bullets, and Ember Celica's shells) would make it easily reloadable and transportable, though requiring some mechanism or time to swap out types. Unlike Weiss's Myrtenaster, which has the 6-Dust chamber design for flexibility at the cost of not being able to reload as easily in the heat of battle (that I've seen so far). I would assume, being skilled with their respective personally-built weapons, Ruby and Yang can control whether or not an actual projectile gets expelled when propulsive effects are desired. --- Philip

With the caveat that I have yet to watch RWBY the whole way through, I was under the impression that the characters' weapons were heavily inspired by the Cartridge system from the Nanoha franchise. The Cartridges were effectively high-tech mana potions, fed into a weapon to give a temporary boost of power, which is what I assumed Ruby was doing. Speaking of, it would be interesting to see what the Belkan Knights would do in UF, especially the Iron Knight, Vita. Pretty much the simplest explanation of Vita is "we successfully* constructed a hybrid of the GaoGaiGar and the Alt Eisen, in the form of a 12-year-old girl" *If you measure success in terms of property damage. As as a starting (and ending) point is great, but if you *really* must have the full background, there are movie versions of both the first and second seasons out now that... are rather remarkable improvements in some ways on the original anime, especially graphics-wise. Granted they don't have quite as much background/filler, but they're perfectly acceptable jumping off points, in my humble opinion. If the creative staff (or anyone else, for that matter) is interested, I could provide links to streaming video of both the original series and the movies, with subtitles. I'll leave it to G to decide whether I should post them as links or in PMs. If I do link them, I should forewarn people that, although the sites I use are reasonably safe, normal precautions should be taken. Adblock, no clicking of banners or suspect links, no-script, you know the measures I mean. |

Well, yeah, of course the animators weren't thinking about it. I'm not sure they're capable of thinking about anything except how to get the num-nums out of their sippy cups. They have Opinions about mental health conditions like depression, social anxiety, and so forth (namely that they don't exist and are evidence only of weak character); however, this is not the time or the place to discuss them. It'll never get written, because the writers who work in the particular style he'd be best suited for or, indeed, would be at all interested in his source materiel are no longer with the production team (that's not a dig at Ben or Phil; not all writers are all things to all people)... ... but for the past couple months I've been thinking I'd really like to see Jack Donaghy, GENOM's Vice-President of Eastern Spiral Arm Television and Microwave Oven programming. -Merc Keep Rat |

Moodwise, at least, yeah. Mouretsu Pirates' space-side setting and involvement would seem to require placing the characters out in the Big Universe, but I could easily see the Yacht Club at DSM. Perhaps the Bentenmaru and the other originals were outsiders brought in as part of the fight against the Cardassians, a la the Flying Tigers? Sadly, the review I posted of the show when I first watched it didn't garner much interest. ----- "V, did you do something foolish?" "Yes, and it was glorious." |

Oh, wild out-of-left-field wouldn't-it-be-cool-if suggestion, that may be so obscure Gryphon will have never heard of it... The titular band from Gael Baudino's 1987 novel Gossamer Axe. I actually owned a copy once, although I couldn't tell you whether I sold it or if it is in storage. As I recall, it came out in that era where almost all urban fantasy novels involved the Sidhe and the Pacific Northwest. (Probably due to the Emma Bull/Charles De Lint influence, I'm guessing). However, if you can get past the somewhat heavy-handed moralizing, I'd think Mercedes Lackey's SERRAted Edge books might be even more suitable for UF. The elves in question aren't in a band, but they DO race stock cars.... Mario |

Yes, but Christa was such a Mary Sue, we really don't need to introduce her to UF. I am quite familiar with the book. I love it dearly, for a bunch of reasons, many having to do with my friends in College. But I don't think she needs to be in UF. Monica, Devi, Boo-boo and Melinda, perhaps. But not Christa. :} >I actually owned a copy once, although I couldn't tell you whether I >sold it or if it is in storage. Emma Bull set _War for the Oaks_ in Minneapolis, I thought. And DeLint mostly alternated between Ottowa and Newford (which is fictional and could be ANYWHERE). Why yes, you have both managed to pull out quite a LARGE chunk of my adolescent reading habits here. ;) >However, if you can get past the somewhat heavy-handed moralizing, I'd >think Mercedes Lackey's SERRAted Edge books might be even more >suitable for UF. I've been a bit surprised that the ladies of the AMP (Silent Mobius) haven't made an appearance as part of the IPO (or similar type organization). Quite a few different flavors of magic/sorcery/divine powers, cyborg strength, computer skillz (to put it mildly), plus whatever the hell Rally Cheyenne is. If they've made an appearance, even in reference, I don't recall, and I can't remember if this has been asked (and been rejected) before. Jeanne

LAST EDITED ON Sep-27-14 AT 09:07 PM (EDT) Hammer Time: Book 3. Also referenced in Cybertron Dreams, but that's been deprecated.I can't take credit for knowing that offhand, by the way. I knew it was around, but I didn't know where, so I searched the site for "subspace synchotron" nand went from there. EDIT: UGH, and it turns out I was completely confusing Silent Mobius with Sol Bianca. That's on me, everyone. I did that. Please disregard. -Merc Keep Rat |

Larry always had plans for Rally Cheyenne, but that's sort of laid fallow these past decades. ^_^; That, and various Spinners show up, and I believe R-Type had developed a new one for G to use during Checkmate. --- Philip

With two members of NAPD's Crime Lab harnessing the Speed Force, I'm surprised the Rogues aren't around. A purely artificial environment like New Avalon's seems tailor-made for the Weather Wizard, and half the Rogues could easily be meets for Blue Sun or one of the other groups. Something to keep in mind there is that we haven't really spent a lot of time in New Avalon ever since CSI:NA ended, and the times we have have not exactly focused on the supervillainy parts but more on the weird occulty parts. Although AINA is likely to change that. ... actually. Do places count as characters? Can we request more of them? Because I goddamn love New Avalon and the whole Dyson Sphere Republic thing. So I'd like to request New Avalon. -Merc Keep Rat |

Found this while skimming Deviantart. Given the number of musicians in the cast, I think this young lady would fit right in (SFW). Ebony the Black Dragon "Life is like an anole. Sometimes it's green. Sometimes it's brown. But it's always a small Caribbean lizard." |

>That is pretty freaking metal, though the exposed (?) cleavage in her >biosuit leads to all kinds of odd questions. Is it a cosmetic mod to >the front of the suit for her "badass image", or is she so damn metal >that she doesn't mind getting the flu and a contact rash after every >performance? I had been thinking, why the hell did she have a helmet on if the chest was going to be like that. =) -------- this world created by the hands of the gods everything is false everything is a LIE the final days have come now let everything be destroyed --mu |

I've seen a couple of renditions of Quarians like this (one of which was a very nice display), and it seems to be either a clear piece of material over the cleavage, or a "flesh"-colored piece, providing an illusion of skin. (Flesh in quotes because, despite the cornucopia of Rule 34 material out there featuring Tali, we really don't know what color Quarians' skin is. It could be transparent for all we know, which would give some Commander Sheppards a very strange fetish.) Ebony the Black Dragon

>I find myself wondering what school Hiro, Baymax, and the gang would >go to. I haven't seen the film, but even from the trailer, if the setting were any more obviously Republic City ca. 300 ASC, you'd be able to see the Aang statue in the establishing shots. :) --G. -><- Benjamin D.
