Dare I hope for appearances by Mako Mori? ----- The most wonderful thing about BBs Is BBs are wonderful things Their sides are made out of iron Their guns are made out of pain They're crashy smashy bashy flashy fun-fun-fun-fun-fun But the most wonderful thing about BBs Is there is more than one The~re is more than one! |

> >Dare I hope for appearances by Mako Mori? >Ooh. That would be fun. I'd like to see her at the controls of this year's model of Jet Alone. That makes me wonder how much tech has been released. Five years later, I'd think that something's been declassified enough to be usable in high-security labs outside of XCOM, at the very least. Depending on what they've decided, some of the materials science might be used in the top-of-the-line luxury cars. However, some things are probably still being kept out of civilian hands. ("The 2022 Ford Fusion: Powered By Elerium." Yeah, right.) I know, investigating this too closely, but that's my brain gone a-wandering. Peter Eng -- I'm assuming that all of the people who can operate an EVA have been seen in previous seasons. |

("The 2022 Ford >Fusion: Powered By Elerium." Yeah, right.) The problem with going wide with Elerium-115 applications is that it can't be mass-produced. If it could, then there might well have been an energy revolution on par with the adoption of the Shizuma Drive in Giant Robo, because there is really no downside other than the economic to using Elerium as a power source, besides its habit of exploding when ill-treated (and that is, after all, a drawback it shares with a good many popular real-world energy solutions). It doesn't produce harmful radiation or dangerous levels of waste heat, isn't toxic, leaves no measurable residue... it's pretty much the ideal power source, apart from its scarcity. That said, technology spin-offs like those implied by the "help out so-and-so" side jobs in XCOM: Enemy Unknown are entirely possible. PPE reinforced with "alien alloys", and so forth. (I love the unintentionally ominous results you sometimes get from the fact that the countries involved are random. "I'm sure the people of China rest easier knowing that their police have the latest laser weapons," says Bradford without apparent irony after we sell the Chinese government a couple of Heavy Lasers. Yeah, uh... I'm sure they do.) --G. -><- Benjamin D. Well, Dan Ellison is still out there, and he could probably be considered one of the good guys, given that his primary actions after being shot down were to refrain from assisting the traitorous Agent Wasdin and to help Shinji and San jimmy the door for their Evangelions. And even if his ties to SEELE aren't quite severed, he probably doesn't want to see unrelated aliens rising from the sea and killing everyone. The other person we might see in a robot from NXE is Marina Kirishatova, piloting Zashchitnik; she'll probably appear during an attack on Vladivostok or something. After all (the Russian planners would think), nukes work on kaiju, and giant robots with AT field generators work on kaiju, so a giant robot with an AT field and a nuke will definitely work. Another thing that NERV/XCOM might want to revive would be the IT field equipped Raidens. Obviously, they aren't going to be able to kill a kaiju even with phase space neutralizers, because this isn't that kind of story, but given that the kaiju can strike anywhere near the Pacific Ocean, having something that can tell one "Hey, stop trashing population centers and pay attention to us instead" while the Evas are on route is a good thing. |

LAST EDITED ON Feb-04-19 AT 05:12 PM (EST) >Well, Dan Ellison is still out there, I would like to think that Dan decided it was all a fool's game, and is now taking classes for his degree in English Literature at Oxford, wanting to be in a sane location, with money he took from hidden accounts Natla had set up. He doesn't have to ever work unless he wants to, and sends Jon a Christmas card from mail forwarding services across Europe so he can't be easily found. Edit: after a bit of thought, I expect Jon has the resources to find Dan, but is respecting his desire to be left alone unless things go crazy and he really needs Dan's help. The entire mail forwarding thing is Dan's way of requesting privacy without being rude. -- Geoff Depew - Darth Mephron Haberdasher to Androids, Dark Lord of Sith Tech Support. "And Remember! The entire mail forwarding thing >is Dan's way of requesting privacy without being rude. Yeah, I expect that if Jon wanted to find someone, he wouldn't have too much trouble doing so. But since Dan basically decided to strike his own path and give the whole "Great Battle Between Good and Evil" stuff a pass, Jon's probably looking at it as a case of no news (literally, in this case) is good news. If Dan started making headlines Jon would no doubt pay attention to them, but even then probably only in a "do I have to be worried?" sort of way.
